Lydia Davis "Varieties of Disturbance"

So completely overlooked this as an assignment.....oops

One of the most interesting things i got out of Lydia Davis's book was the abnormal structure.  The book varied in terms of length.  The stories ranged from one or two pages to eleven or twelve.  Even though the length of the stores didn't stay consistent, the content was not lacking in anyway.  The idea of a 5 line short story was amazing to me.  Being able to describe all the elements of a story in so few lines is defiantly something i would like to develop.

"Mothers Reaction to My Travel Plans," is a perfect example of the strange structure in this book.  These short pieces allow the reader to interprate the story in many different ways.  I personally think there are many ways to understand a story regardless of the length.  The shorter the story the more ways it can be interpreted because there are less words to dilute it.

All in all i thought the book was very interesting.  It explored different structure, and the stories stretched across many genres.  This is something i would love to actually do in the future.
